Eye to Eye.

A collaborative short film about a CGI toy bear’s emotional journey of friendship, where I directed and composited 17 VFX shots to help bring his world to life.

VFX Short Film.

A tattered toy bear, missing an eye, embarks on a journey to restore its vision, little does he know he’ll end up helping someone who needs it more than him.

"Eye to Eye" is a VFX-driven short film created during our second year at the University of Hertfordshire. As the director and lead compositor, I was responsible for overseeing 17 shots—10 CG and 7 non-CG—while also managing the rendering process.

The project was a collaborative effort, with a core team of 7 members and 5 freelancers, each contributing their expertise, from character modeling, rigging and simulations to compositing and the final edit.

Breakdowns.

Working with ACES color management, I cleaned up all the footage to prepare it for the CG renders, setting up utility passes and cryptomattes for accurate integration.

Using deep compositing techniques, I achieved a realistic defocus and layered dust elements seamlessly, ensuring details like the groom and fur textures remained intact.

Color grading was done holistically in DaVinci Resolve to unify the CG and live-action elements, while the final edit was crafted to complement the music, enhancing the film’s emotional depth and atmosphere.
